Forget the 99cent store. Forget Dollar Tree. My heart belongs to Daiso.
Daiso is a Japanese discount store where almost everything is $1.50. Besides the amazing prices, the stores themselves are beautifully laid out and color coordinated which makes my Virgo heart so happy! Need a finger guard for the kitchen? They got it. How about adorable bowls and cups? They've got that too! You'll find yummy Japanese treats, beauty items, housewares, pet toys, storage containers and everything else under the moon but more importantly (and my favorite), they have tons of Japanese stationery. This is usually where I go overboard. Kawaii stickers? YES! A5 skinny lined paper? YES! Washi Tape? YES, YES, YES!
I just discovered a brand new Daiso opened up super close to my job and so, obviously, a lunch break excursion was in order. I am currently prepping to move into my A5 dokibook (you can read all about that HERE) and I needed a sturdy plastic sheet to place in the back to avoid paper folding under the rings. Of course, I didn't find it in the size I needed but I did get a hold of some other nifty stationery items and so let's get right into that!
One thing that constantly disappears in my house are scissors. It never fails! They end up in the kitchen, in the bathroom, anywhere except where I really need them. When I spotted this pair of scissors, I immediately knew I had to have them. They're bright, they're cute and they are definitely not going to be confused with the basic scissors I have around the house right now. With my switching into an A5 planner, I knew I needed to get a new notebook to rip apart and put into my dokibook. It's hard not to leave with 10 different books especially since they have a huge variety of colors, page styles and designs. I just picked up this simple notebook so I can easily take apart without feeling like I am wasting a cute cover. |
So I have yet to find on-the-go stationery heaven. I am forever on the look for new pencil pouches and pen holders that can withstand being in my purse. What happens is I end up getting blinded by how cute a bag is rather than focusing on the functionality of the damn thing. At Daiso they have these top loading plastic pencil holders and I haven't used this yet but it looks like it's going to fit all my necessary items while on-the-go. I am not a fan of the color but I bought it knowing I will cover the whole thing up eventually with stickers, washi and fun stuff like that. I'll report back when I actually start using it.
I was happily surprised when I went over to their tape section to not only find they had restocked the washi tape but they also had some new items I hadn't seen before! For instance, these rolled sticky notes. Although it looks like washi tape, it's actually sticky memo paper just rolled up. This set would be perfect for page flags or note blocking and it actually has more "stick" to it than I expected.

I also snagged these hole punch protectors. I am used to the paper versions but I had never seen the plastic ones like these. I made my first set of dividers and since then I've really paid attention to the hole punches hoping they don't rip or tear. I know you can line these with clear tapr or washi, but I love these heart protectors.
Also in the notebook aisle were these beyond adorable scrapbooks. I actually got rid of so much scrap booking stuff last year but my love of photography wouldn't let me leave without buying this beauty. It's a small, square, spiral bound kraft book and I have no idea what I will use it for yet. There were only 2 left and I bought them both (one for a friend).

AND lastly.... WASHI TAPE. As many times as I've seen these in Daiso, I've never purchased them until now. I am trying to slow my washi tape roll but with traveling on my brain yet again, I picked up these London and Toyko inspired washi tapes. SWOON!
I cannot wait to move into my A5 planner and as soon as I have it all prettified I will post photos for planner inspiration for all you planner nerds out there!
