When I think of Halloween, I am immediately struck with an image of childhood.
No matter what our situation was as children, my Mom always made holidays special for us and Halloween stands out the most for me. While kids were going to local costume shop to pick up the popular superhero or cartoon character costumes, my Mom used her creative "DIY" skills to whip up all of our Halloween get-ups.
The love she has for Halloween not only passed on to me but I think it melted into my actual DNA which is why I celebrate Halloween every day...And it's also why I am so happy to talk about 'Ween Dream!
'Ween Dream is an all-volunteer, non-profit organization which, through donations from awesome people like me and you, provides free Halloween costumes to children in need. I mean, talk about an organization being near and dear to my heart! 'Ween Dream collects donated costumes throughout the year and provides them to "Weensters" across America. If they don't have a specific costume, they'll add that child to their "Pumpkin Patch" where someone can purchase that costume for a weenster in need.
So what does "in need" entail exactly? Examples of children "in need" include those living in poverty, children with serious medical issues, children with special needs, children with mental and/or physical disabilities, and children who have recently experienced a traumatic event (such as a natural disaster).
Today I volunteered to buy not one, but TWO costumes for a "Pumpkin Patch" weenster. My childhood Halloween memories are so precious to me: school parades, trick or treating, trading candy with my brother and sister... and THIS is why I am so excited that by simply donating a costume - I can provide that feeling to another little Trick or Treater out there!
Last year, 'Ween Dream received over 800 applications for costumes from 7 states and were able to provide costumes to 580 weensters! Let's help them surpass that number this year! Need more information? Check out their official website HERE! Don't feel like hitting the stores? You can check out their Amazon wish list HERE or if you like, you can make a donation which helps pay for much needed expenses that allow them to stay open year round (And psst! It's tax deductible!). Still want to learn more on how YOU can help? Click here for their "How To Help" page for even more information!
Check out previous weensters in their costumes in the photo gallery HERE!
A total side note: I am not affiliated with 'Ween Dream in any way, I just happen to really want to spread the word about this wonderful organization!
P.S. As you can see below, even into adulthood my love for Halloween continues to grow and I've been lucky enough to have amazing nephews to spoil with Halloween tricks and treats!
