Ever since I fell down the rabbit hole that is the planner world, I've strictly been a Kikki K girl. I started with the medium lavender/gold then moved into the medium mint/gold but the more videos I watched and the more Instagram photos I slobbered over I realized..... I was leaning towards getting a Filofax. I never knew why planner nerds had 3, 4 ,5 planners until NOW. I get it. I so get it.
Once my mind was set on a Filofax, I knew I didn't want to spend an insane amount on money on a planner that might not work for me so I watched a ton of videos on YouTube and searched Pinterest like a maniac. The Filofax Saffiano was the way to go for me, being that it's not leather it wouldn't cost me a fortune. My heart immediately clung to the "pear" color. Apple picking season, witches, Frankenstein's monster, Tales from the Crypt, slime... all of these images came to mind and yup, I was sold. I found it pretty cheap on Amazon, throw in Prime Shipping and this beauty was in my hands within 2 days.
First thoughts: Since I've been loyal to Kikki K, the first thing that alarmed me were the amount of pockets the Saffiano didn't have. At first, this was a complete turn off for me. Where would I put my precious page flags? Where could I hold my Garbage Pail Kids? Where could I possibly clip my Kate Spade expletive paper clips?!
A couple more things - My bottom ring is ANNOYING. The alignment is off ever so slightly off (I am talking minuscule) but it's enough to snag my dashboard and dividers so that is driving me nuts. Also, the inside is this olive green which I really don't like. I literally put the Filofax back in the box and thought "NOPE".... but throughout the weekend, I would pick her up and open her up and pull on the snap closure until finally, inspiration hit.... and I made it work.
Little by little I transferred all of the inserts out of my mint/gold Kikki K and put them in the Filofax. I flipped through the pages, imagined using this every day and then suddenly it all started coming together until I looked over at the pocket area. UGH. I knew that if I didn't get this just right, I would go the way of my A5 Dokibook and simply not use it.
I started clipping things here, putting things there and fast forward about an hour and BOOM. I got it. I took care of that olive green by placing a jack 'o lantern sheet in the back pocket along with a spooky eyes divider from an Emily the Strange address book. I took the Kate Spade clips and hooked them on the side of the flap then slipped a "Return of the Living Dead" print under those. That pesky card didn't want to stay so I used double-sided tape and voila! I wrapped a whole new set of washi tape on a gift card and shoved that in there, too. Then I slipped in an old Halloween chipboard piece, spiderweb borders and small Simple Stories cards in the empty slots and O M G............... LOVE.
I don't know if the color is for everyone. It really is brighter than I thought but like I mentioned above, lime green translates to creepy to me and I love it. The binder lays completely flat when open, neither of my Kikki K planners do. It does come with a plastic sleeve, so that's where I threw in my deco stickers and miscellaneous items until I can get that sorted out.
As the season starts transitioning into Autumn I feel like this planner is going to be such a fun adventure to use through September into October. In October, I'll switch to my Caramel Color Crush planner.....even though, it doesn't appear caramel to me at all. It's definitely more Pumpkin Spice Latte which will be perfect for my favorite time of year: HALLOWEEN SEASON! (PS. I bought the Color Crush from Create and Craft for $12.99, no inserts included but it came packaged in a gorgeous box and comes with the gold heart bookmark. Last I checked this color is still available at that price!)
I know this was a crazy long post but I didn't really see much talk about the Pear Filofax so I wanted to show a different way to approach this planner that maybe hasn't been touched upon yet. Next post is coming up tomorrow and it's getting in deep with my very first huge Halloween haul of the season!
Til then...Keep it spooky,
